Alonso has distanced himself from the rest of the Formula One competition including Michael Schumacher, after extending his point lead to 23 points.

In Indy Car Racing, Penke Racing driver Helio Castroneves won his third race of 2006 after taking the checkered flag in the Bombardier Learjet 500 at Texas.

Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon finished 2nd and 3rd, Sam Hornish Jr and Scott Sharp rounded out the top five.
