Dale Earnhardt Jr topped the Tuesday morning practice charts with a speed of 185.820 mph (48.434), followed by Toyota drivers Michael Waltrip, Brian Vickers, Dale Jarrett, and Tony Stewart. The Tuesday afternoon session was the first drafting session of the week. Penske Racing driver Ryan Newman led the way with a speed of 188.013 mph (47.869).
Clint Bowyer and Juan Pablo Montoya participated in a Goodyear tire test at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday.
"There's definitely things that feel different, but I was pleasantly surprised, I really was," said Bowyer.
