So as soon as it was revealed that he would have his own weekly talk show on Sirius Satellite Radio, you just knew that it would make for some fascinating entertainment.
Stewart has one of the most absorbing personalities in all of NASCAR. Ever since he was a NASCAR rookie back in 1999, controversy has trailed the 1997 Indy Racing League champion. And in 2006, he had issues with several drivers- Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards, David Ragan, Martin Truex Jr, and Jamie McMurray.
Recently he called out fellow NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Carl Edwards, one of the drivers whom he had a slight discord with at Pocono last July.
Let’s rewind six months…Tony Stewart became agitated when he felt as if NASCAR rookie Clint Bowyer raced him too assertively too early in the race. As it turned out, Bowyer was trying to get out of Stewart’s way. Anyway, he proceeded to side-swipe Bowyer, knocking him into Carl Edwards, tarnishing both of the young drivers days. While Bowyer remained somewhat tranquil, Edwards had some harsh words for Stewart over the radio, even threatening physical violence. During a later caution, Edwards would spin Stewart on pit road. After the race, Edwards continued to display his discontentment towards Stewart by saying, “How can a person make it this far in life and be that much of a jerk?”
Stewart’s was retort was the humorous likening of Edwards to Eddie Haskell from the classic television show ‘Leave It To Beaver’. So it appeared as if we would have a bad boy versus nice guy feud.
However, for the remainder of the season, the rivalry sorted of disintegrated as the two drivers played nice on and off the track. But Stewart threw some logs into the dwindling fire Tuesday night on his Sirius Satellite Radio talk show.
“The next time that I hear Carl Edwards tell me that he’s going to make me bleed he better be ready to do it right then and there….I don’t care what the fine is from NASCAR. I’ve got $50,000 saved.”
Wow…some strong words there. The question is, however, is Stewart serious or was he trying to spice up his radio talk show? Perhaps Stewart was holding back his challenge to Edwards until after he had several months to work out and get in shape. Who knows, but what this goes to show you, race fans, is that there is no off-season for Tony Stewart and his mouth.
