Every week Suite 101 ranks the top 16 NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers based on results and performance.
1. (2) 29-Kevin Harvick- Harvick gives Richard Childress his first Daytona 500 victory since 1998. 2. (1) 20-Tony Stewart- Tony Stewart's history at Daytona is eerily similar to that of the late Dale Earnhardt's. 3. (4) 17-Matt Kenseth- Matt Kenseth was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when Kyle Busch lost control. 4. (8) 31-Jeff Burton- If push came to shove, who would Jeff Burton draft with, Kevin Harvick or Mark Martin? 5. (5) 5-Kyle Busch- Maybe Kyle Busch tried a little too hard. 6. (3) 48-Jimmie Johnson- This year's Daytona 500 was very undistinguished for Jimmie Johnson. 7. (6) 8-Dale Earnhardt Jr- It's hard to believe that expectations are higher for Earnhardt Jr heading into California than they were at Daytona. 8. (9) 9-Kasey Kahne- Kasey Kahne was more of a survivor than a contender at Daytona. 9. (7) 24-Jeff Gordon- Jeff Gordon was involved in that last lap wreck, however, he still finished better than he ran. 10. (15) 01-Mark Martin- Mark Martin's debut with Ginn Racing was bittersweet after his heartrending second place finish. 11. (11) 2-Kurt Busch- Tony Stewart may have reacted less belligerently than expected, nevertheless, Busch should still watch his back at Bristol and Martinsville. 12. (14) 38-David Gilliland- Juan Pablo Who? David Gilliland was the first-year driver that stole the show at Daytona. 13. (10) 11-Denny Hamlin- Hamlin hopes his Daytona 500 results are no indication of how his sophomore season will play out. 14. (13) 99-Carl Edwards- Edwards should see better results at California. 15. (12) 16-Greg Biffle- After the craziness at Daytona, Biffle cannot wait to get to California. 16. (NR) 19-Elliott Sadler- See Kasey Kahne comment
