Each week, Suite 101 ranks the top 16 NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers based on results and performance.

  1. (1) 17-Matt Kenseth: Kenseth is feeling the pressure from Jimmie Johnson in the championship chase.
  2. (2) 48-Jimmie Johnson: Anything less than a championship would be devastating for Jimmie Johnson and the 48 bunch.
  3. (3) 31-Jeff Burton: It appears that Jeff Burton was the victim of another driver playing God.
  4. (6) 8-Dale Earnhardt Jr: Earnhardt Jr is still lingering around the top four or five in the Nextel Cup standings.
  5. (5) 11-Denny Hamlin: Either their performance has really dropped or they are doing some serious points racing.
  6. (4) 29-Kevin Harvick: I’m surprised at how much Harvick and the 29 team have fallen off since their win at New Hampshire.
  7. (9) 24-Jeff Gordon: Jeff Gordon was lucky to leave Atlanta with a top ten finish.
  8. (11) 20-Tony Stewart: He may be the hottest driver in NASCAR and he’s not even in the Chase for the Championship.
  9. (7) 9-Kasey Kahne: All David Stremme wanted to do was trade a Coors Light for a Big Mac.
  10. (8) 6-Mark Martin: Good news for Ford loyalists, Martin will drive the blue oval in the Craftsman Truck Series.
  11. (12) 99-Carl Edwards: Edwards will get a win before the season is over.
  12. (10) 5-Kyle Busch: Kyle Busch is the Jeremy Mayfield of 2006- makes it into the Chase, and then the wheels fall off.
  13. (16) 16-Greg Biffle: That’s the Greg Biffle that everyone expected to see in 2006.
  14. (13) 43-Bobby Labonte: Lately, Labonte and the 43 team have been the second best Dodge team.
  15. (14) 2-Kurt Busch: Look on the bright side, the season’s almost over.

16. (NR) 7-Robby Gordon: What can you say. The man needed a caution.
