Each week, Suite 101 ranks the top 16 NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers based on results and performance.
(2) 17-Matt Kenseth: It’s now Kenseth’s championship to lose.
(5) 48-Jimmie Johnson: If Johnson comes back to win the Nextel Cup championship, it’s just simply meant to be.
(1) 31-Jeff Burton: At least if Jeff Burton would have wrecked, the car could have been repairable. But no, he had to go and blow an engine.
(3) 29-Kevin Harvick: Harvick has lost some impetus since his win at New Hampshire in September.
(6) 11-Denny Hamlin: For some reason, I believe if Hamlin would have bumped Jimmie Johnson out of the way for the win at Martinsville, it would have been a popular win.
(4) 8-Dale Earnhardt Jr: Earnhardt Jr and the 8 team need a win at Atlanta.
(8) 9-Kasey Kahne: Kahne survived Martinsville, now on to another 1.5 miler.
(7) 6-Mark Martin: I just don’t think a championship is in the cards for Mark Martin.
(10) 24-Jeff Gordon: Drive for Five in 2007.
(9) 5-Kyle Busch: Kyle Busch has never really been able to get going since the Nextel Cup Chase for the Championship began.
(11) 20-Tony Stewart: Stewart will be among the favorites heading into the race at Atlanta.
(12) 99-Carl Edwards: So far, Atlanta has been Edwards’ best track since joining the Nextel Cup circuit in 2004.
(16) 43-Bobby Labonte: There was a time in the mid and late 1990’s when Bobby Labonte owned Atlanta Motor Speedway.
(14) 2-Kurt Busch: Not many drivers have had as bad luck as Kurt Busch in 2006.
(13) 25-Brian Vickers: Vickers will be teamed up with former Champ Car driver A.J. Allmendinger at Red Bull Racing next season.
(15) 16-Greg Biffle: Just four more races for Biffle to end this wretched season.
