Each week, Suite 101 ranks the top 16 NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers based on results and performance.
1. (2) 17-Matt Kenseth: Matt Kenseth could be the Nextel Cup championship favorite as we head into the Chase for the Championship.
2. (1) 48-Jimmie Johnson: Two straight finishes outside of the top ten is very un-Jimmie Johnson-like.
3. (3) 29-Kevin Harvick: I would like to see a Kevin Harvick vs. Kurt Busch duel to the finish at Bristol.
4. (4) 20-Tony Stewart: Or a Tony Stewart vs. Carl Edwards and/or Clint Bowyer.
5. (7) 24-Jeff Gordon: Or a Jeff Gordon vs. Matt Kenseth
6. (5) 31-Jeff Burton: Expect Jeff Burton to recover at Bristol.
7. (6) 5-Kyle Busch: Even the lucky dog rule couldn't save Kyle Busch at Michigan.
8. (8) 11-Denny Hamlin: If Denny Hamlin can survive Bristol, his chances of qualifying for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Chase for The Championship will increase.
9. (9) 6-Mark Martin: Mark Martin hasn't been really good, or really bad over the past couple of months. Maybe he's saving his stuff for the Chase for the Championship.
10. (10) 8-Dale Earnhardt Jr: Nice guys finish last, or first if you wreck the guy in front of you.
11. (12) 9-Kasey Kahne: Kasey Kahne avoided a third consecutive last lap calamity en route to his fourth place finish at Michigan.
12. (14) 16-Greg Biffle: This team just isn't as strong as they were in the first half of the season.
13. (11) 2-Kurt Busch: Kurt Busch is watching his Chase for the Championship chanced dwindle right before his very eyes.
14. (13) 99-Carl Edwards: I think Carl Edwards' cage was more than just rattled.
15. (15) 07-Clint Bowyer: After blowing an engine with 2 laps to go while running in third position, I just couldn't drop Clint Bowyer out of the top sixteen.
16. (NR) 41-Reed Sorenson: Like last season, the #41 team gets better as the season progresses.
