Michael Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya are widely acclaimed in the world of open-wheel racing, particularly Formula One.

Schumacher boasts seven Formula One championships, while Montoya owns a CART championship as well as an Indianapolis 500 triumph.

And now that Montoya has decided to test his auto racing skills in NASCAR, Schumacher is questioning the conversion.

"Personally, I wouldn't do it," Schumacher said. "What do you do in NASCAR? What is exciting there? I can't see that, running around on ovals."

The boorish remark sparked a quick retort from Colombia native while he was testing for his first Daytona 500 this week.

"(Michael) Schumacher in America is nobody.” Montoya went on stress the intricacy and dedication that is involved in making the transition from open-wheels to stock cars. “Just take him to Homestead and tell him to stay half a second off the pace. He would have a heart attack."

Schumacher has long been a detractor of NASCAR and stock car racing in general, and he has been vocal about it. But if you are not particularly fond of something, don’t keep talking about it. Schumacher does not understand NASCAR, and why it has become such a trendy sport in the United States, but there must be a reason behind the stock craze other than 'we're just dumb Americans who like to watch cars go in circles'.

And Juan Pablo Montoya has already indicated that he is going to manage a smooth transition from Formula One, something that he feels would not be so easy for the seven-time Formula One champion.

"It would be a hard transition (for Michael Schumacher) for sure," he said.
